Butacaine is a local anesthetic. Butacaine is a reversible nerve conduction blocker. Butacaine acts on the nervous system and nerve fibers, causing insensitivity of sensory and motor nerves. Butacaine regulates the transport of adenine nucleotides across the inner membrane of rat liver mitochondria without altering adenine nucleotide binding sites. Butacaine exerts a weak reserpine-like effect on catecholamine storage granules, interferes with the granule binding of m-tyrosine, reduces the concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine in mouse brain and norepinephrine in mouse heart, decreases the accumulation of m-tyrosine in mouse striatal tissue fragments, and induces depression-like behavioral effects in mice[1][2][3][4].
