Human T-cells are a type of lymphocyte, distinguished by the presence of a T-cell receptor on the cell surface, which play a central role in the immune response and are key effectors in a variety of cancer immunotherapies, including CAR-T therapy.
T-cells can be differentiated into groups with specific roles in controlling and shaping the immune response, for example, CD8+ T-cells (also known as “killer” T-cells) are cytotoxic and are able to directly kill virus-infected cells as well as cancer cells. Other population of T-cells, such as CD4+ T cells serve as “helper cells” and function by indirectly killing cells identified as foreign. Helper T-cells also use cytokine signalling to influence regulatory B-cells.

T-cell pathogen testing
All cryopreserved T cells are tested negative for HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLV I, HTLV II, syphilis, CMV, HBV andHCV via PCR. However, no known test can offer complete assurance that the cells are pathogen free. Products are tested and are free from mycoplasma contamination. Proper precautions and biological containment should be taken when handling cells of human origin, due to their potential biohazardous nature. All human based products should be handled at a BSL-2 (Biosafety Level 2) or higher.
To prevent clumping and to maximise viability upon thawing, we strongly suggest the use of our Lymphocyte Medium (LYMPH1, LYMPH-1-50) to thaw these cells, especially if you are using a homemade formulation and not achieving success.
