A mucolytic agent and an antioxidant; inhibits LPS-induced IKK activity, NF-κB-mediated transcription, and production of IL-6 and IL-1β in RAW 264.7 cells; prevents depletion of renal catalase and GPX and increases in renal MDA and NO levels in a rat model of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity at 7.5 mg/kg; reduces spinal cord lipid peroxidation and destruction of spinal motor neurons in a rabbit model of spinal cord ischemia and reperfusion injury induced by thoracoabdominal aortic clamping; reduces lung weight, MDA and protein carbonyl levels, and macrophage and neutrophil accumulation in a mouse model of oleic acid-induced acute lung injury at 150 mg/kg
