PGF2α is rapidly metabolized to 13,14-dihydro-15-keto PGF2α in vivo, by the enzymes 15-hydroxy PG dehydrogenase and D13-reductase. Measurement of 13,14-dihydro-15-keto PGF2α in plasma can be used as a marker of the in vivo production of PGF2α. The Cayman’s 13,14-dihydro-15-keto PGF2α ELISA is a competitive assay that provides measurements of 13,14-dihydro-15-keto PGF2α within the range of 2.3-5,000 pg/ml.
