An inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase (Ki = 1.4 nM); a prodrug form of lovastatin hydroxy acid; reduces plasma cholesterol levels in dogs at 8 mg/kg per day; suppresses TNF-induced NF-κB activation (IC50 ~ 15 µM) and potentiates apoptosis in human myeloid leukemia cells; increases cellular lipid peroxidation and decreases GPX4 levels in cancer cells
