A tyrosinase inhibitor (IC50 = 56 µM); found in cashew nut shell liquid; halts the cell cycle at the S phase, induces ROS accumulation and apoptosis, and inhibits proliferation dose- and time-dependently in melanoma cells (IC50s = 23.15 and 12.30 µM after 24 and 48 hours of treatment, respectively); used as a mixture with cardanol di- and triene to synthesize cardanol-metal complexes that inhibit biofilm formation
