A nitrofuran antibiotic; active against a variety of enteropathogenic bacteria; inhibits STAT3 activity in a reporter assay (IC50 = ~3 µM); decreases viability of constitutively active STAT3-containing U266 and INA-6 myeloma cells (EC50s = ~4.5 µM for both); reduces tumor growth and prevents pulmonary metastasis in a 4T1 murine mammary gland tumor model at 50 mg/kg
