A bacterial second messenger and cyclic dinucleotide; an important second messenger in bacteria involved in biofilm formation, motility, virulence, and cell cycling; detected by and binds to STING in eukaryotic cells, activating the innate immune system (Kd = 1.21 µM); induces IFN-β mRNA expression in vitro (EC50 = 537.8 nM) less potently than other cyclic dinucleotides
