Protein FAM13C (FAM13C) is a protein implicated in various cellular processes, including cell signaling and proliferation. It is characterized by the presence of a coiled-coil domain, which is thought to facilitate protein-protein interactions. FAM13C has been associated with the regulation of the RhoA signaling pathway, influencing cytoskeletal dynamics and cellular migration. Dysregulation of FAM13C has been linked to several diseases, particularly cancer. For instance, studies have shown that altered expression of FAM13C can contribute to tumorigenesis in lung and breast cancers, where it may act as a tumor suppressor. In lung cancer, low levels of FAM13C are correlated with poor prognosis and aggressive tumor behavior. Additionally, FAM13C has been implicated in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), where its expression may influence airway remodeling and inflammation.
