Drebrin, Developmentally-regulated brain protein
- Data sheet: View or download
Drebrin 1 (DBN1) is an actin cytoskeleton-organizing protein that plays a crucial role in the formation of cell projections and is particularly significant in neuronal development and function. It is involved in actin polymerization and is required for the proper organization of the actin cytoskeleton, which is essential for cell shape and movement. DBN1 is predominantly expressed in the brain, including regions such as the hippocampal formation, amygdala, basal ganglia, and cerebral cortex. In neurons, DBN1 is thought to regulate synaptic plasticity and the targeting of NMDA receptors. While primarily associated with neural functions, recent studies have also implicated DBN1 in myofibroblast differentiation and the promotion of fibrosis-related genes in the heart and lungs.
