An adenosine A1 receptor antagonist (Ki = 0.3 nM); selective for the adenosine A1 receptor over the adenosine A2 receptor (Ki = 340 nM); increases the force of contractions in isolated guinea pig left auricles at 0.03 and 1 µM; inhibits PIA- or NECA-induced decreases in contraction forces in isolated guinea pig papillary muscles (pA2s = 9.3 and 9, respectively); reverses cardiac arrest induced by adenosine, CPA, or carbachol in isolated rat atrium; decreases immobility time in the forced swim test and tail suspension test in mice at 2 and 4 mg/kg
