A local anesthetic; reduces electrically induced peak CAP amplitudes in isolated frog sciatic nerve (IC50 = 0.21 mM); topical administration inhibits winking in a rabbit corneal test, indicating anesthetic activity, at 0.35 and 0.6%; inhibits the pinprick-induced CTMR in the skin of rats (ED50 = 42.1 µmol, s.c.)
