HostZERO Microbial DNA kit

The HostZERO™ Microbial DNA kit from Zymo Research allows exclusive capture of DNA from microbial cells by dramatically reducing the amount of contaminating host DNA in a microbial sample. Using novel technology, HostZERO selectively lyses any eukaryotic cells that are present in a sample and degrades their DNA prior to total DNA purification, resulting in the efficient recovery of >85% of total bacterial DNA, with >90% of eukaryotic host DNA depleted.

The kit includes the ZymoBIOMICS™ non-biased purification system, to ensure not to introduce bias or cause sample loss. High-quality DNA is eluted with ZymoBIOMICS DNase/RNase free water and is suitable for all downstream applications including PCR and next-generation sequencing.

HostZERO Microbial DNA isolation kit depletes greatest amount of human DNA from a microbial sample

Real-time PCR was used to evaluate eluates recovered from aliquots of a human saliva sample using the HostZERO Kit and kits from Suppliers Q and M. The composition of the purified DNA is shown in terms of bacterial and human DNA abundance. The control method is the ZymoBIOMICS® DNA Microprep Kit, which extracts total DNA from the sample without host DNA depletion.

Bacterial DNA is effectively recovered from human saliva sample with HostZERO technology

Real-time PCR was used to evaluate the yield of bacterial DNA in eluates recovered from aliquots of a human saliva sample using the HostZERO Kit and kits from Suppliers Q and M. The control method is the ZymoBIOMICS® DNA Microprep Kit, which extracts total DNA from the sample without host DNA depletion.

Composition of the microbial sample is maintained best in samples treated with HostZERO

The cDNA recovered from aliquots of a human saliva sample using the HostZERO Kit and kits from Suppliers Q and M was processed with 16S rRNA gene targeted sequencing. Primers targeting the 16S V3-V4 region were used, and the amplicons were sequenced on the Illumina MiSeq® (2x300bp). The control method is the ZymoBIOMICS® DNA Microprep Kit, which extracts total DNA from the sample without host DNA depletion.
