An esterified form of NAC; has enhanced cell permeability compared to NAC in isolated perfused rat liver; prevents tert-butyl hydroperoxide-induced formation of methemoglobin in isolated human red blood cells at 1 mM; increases glutathione levels in rat liver, kidney, heart, testis, and brain at 50 mg/kg twice per day; reduces acetaminophen-induced increases in plasma AST, ALT, and LDH levels in rats
