An indole alkaloid with diverse biological activities; a precursor in the biosynthesis of the vinblastine and vincristine; inhibits microtubule assembly at 320 µM; inhibits proliferation of HCT116 cells (IC50 = 60 µg/ml); induces the release of amylase from mouse pancreas preparations at 100 µM; decreases blood pressure and heart rate in anesthetized normotensive rats at 0.5-20 mg/kg
