With <7 minutes hands-on time, the Quick SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR kit from Zymo Research has a limit of detection of 15 viral genomic copies/reaction. Supplied as a ready-to-use master mix with a 3-step workflow, this kit detects three RNA regions from the nucleocapsid (N) gene of SARS-CoV-2, responsible for COVID-19. Pure RNA from clinical sources, such as upper and lower respiratory specimens, is to be used with this kit.
Compatibility and validation
The kit is compatible with real-time PCR instruments that are able to detect the fluorescent dyes HEX™ and Quasar® 670/Cy® 5. It is also validated on the BioRad® CFX96™ as part of the Zymo Research FDA EUA authorised end to end COVID testing workflow. Comprehensive technical support is available for all steps of the setup process and data interpretation.
This kit contains a CV positive control and a no template control as well as detecting one host-specific region (human RNase P gene) to assess sample quality.

The Quick SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR limit of detection (LOD) is as little as 15 genome equivalent copies per reaction (GEC/reaction) or 250 GEC per milliliter of specimen, for manual and automated rRT-PCR setup. Samples with concentrations of 5 and 10 copies/reaction have 75 and 85 percent of detection, respectively.
