Basis of employment: Full-time, permanent

Location: Bar Hill, Cambridge with UK and some international travel

Benefits: £30,000 - £40,000 plus bonus and commission, pension and private healthcare

About Cambridge Bioscience
Cambridge Bioscience is a leading UK distributor of advanced life science research products. We represent around 50 carefully selected manufacturers and market their products throughout the UK. Our products cover a broad range of life science research topics focusing on cell and molecular biology. 
We are now looking to recruit a Business Manager who will be responsible for our Molecular Biology portfolio.

Purpose of the post
As the Molecular Biology Business Manager you will take overall responsibility for the management and success of the Molecular Biology portfolio. You will set the long-term vision and strategy for the growth of your portfolio using data analysis, market research and by working with and supporting the key internal stakeholders (marketing, sales, customer service/finance) to develop and implement these strategies. 

Key responsibilities

Portfolio management
- Have a strong understanding of your portfolio as a whole
- Identify opportunities (accounts, products, ranges, suppliers, tenders) from your existing portfolio using data analysis, market research and by working with key internal stakeholders (marketing, sales, customer service/finance)
- Assess market competition compared to identified opportunities
- Understand, identify target markets and position key product/ranges/suppliers
- Complete and bid for identified tenders
- Set yearly sales forecasts and short and long-term objectives and strategies
- Support key internal stakeholders (marketing, sales, IT and customer service/finance) in the determination and implementation of tactics to meet your objectives and achieve your strategies

Supplier management
- Create and maintain positive, productive and profitable partnerships with your suppliers
- Promote Cambridge Bioscience as a powerful channel to aid in your suppliers success
- Communicate clearly and regularly, meeting the needs of each individual supplier
- Set clear expectations for reporting and deliver on these expectations
- Encourage engagement by your suppliers and support their marketing/sales plans
- Collect and analyse customer feedback and communicate this to your suppliers

Market and portfolio analysis and new supplier identification
- Identify new, emerging and fast developing markets
- Analyse these markets and assess suitability for Cambridge Bioscience
- Identify gaps in your existing portfolio
- Identify new suppliers/products to meet identified market needs and fill gaps in your existing portfolio
- Assess identified suppliers and determine suitability for Cambridge Bioscience

Supplier acquisition
- Research and identify the wants and needs of a new potential supplier and match Cambridge Bioscience’s strengths to their needs
- Create proposals that promote Cambridge Bioscience as a strong distribution partner
- Form positive relationships with potential new suppliers
- Review draft agreements and negotiate favourable terms

Stakeholder support (internal and external)
- Inspire and enthuse internal and external stakeholders about your portfolio, creating strong, positive relationships
- Meet regularly with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales and customer service/finance, to support and follow up agreed strategies
- Support the sales team on the negotiation of high value opportunities, including securing favourable supplier pricing
- Assist in the development of strong relationships between key target customers and the sales team
- Provide internal (sales/marketing) sales and technical training as required

Skills and experience required
- Either a Ph.D. or extensive experience and knowledge of relevant molecular biology techniques
- Extensive knowledge of the life science reagent market developed from a marketing/product management background
- A deep understanding of distribution channels and collaboration structures in this industry
- A passion for new life science technologies and the ability to determine which of these will be of greatest future importance
- Be results orientated with the drive to set and meet agreed objectives
- The ability to translate analysis into actionable, practical strategies
- The ability to prioritise and manage many projects at the same time whilst meeting agreed timelines
- A strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills including well-developed listening, written and verbal communication skills
- Happy and able to travel regularly within the UK and occasionally internationally
- Full driving license
- Fluency in written and spoken English
