Nucleic Acid Stains
Cambridge Bioscience offers a range of new generation fluorescent nucleic acid gel stains designed to replace the ethidium bromide (EtBr).
GelRed and Gel Green from Biotium are superior to EtBr and other EtBr alternatives and offer unrivalled sensitivity, cell membrane impermeability for true safety, extreme heat and light stability as well compatibility with all downstream manipulations. EtBr offers acceptable sensitivity but is a known mutagen and requires a destaining step to reduce background fluorescence. Other widely promoted dyes have been claimed to be the most sensitive gel stains, but degrade rapidly under the alkaline conditions of commonly used electrophoresis buffers or in the matrix of precast gels, resulting in unreliable gel staining.
Cambridge Bioscience offers genuine replacements for EtBr which are already being used by hundreds of labs throughout the UK.
