Myeloperoxidase Research
Myeloperoxidase is an enzyme located in the azurophilic granules of polymorph nuclear neutrophils. The enzyme plays an important role in combating infection. However, elevated MPO levels are associated with coronary heart disease and it is thought MPO may play an important role in the development of atherosclerotic lesions and increase the tendency for the plaque to break off resulting in myocardial infarction.
