Multi-Electrode Array Assay

Cambridge Bioscience offers access to a highly accurate and sensitive, fully validated assay from B’SYS enabling cardiac risk screening of compounds earlier in drug development cycles. By viewing cardiac repolarisation as an event involving multiple ion channel effects, rather than focussing on single channels such as patch clamp techniques on cells expressing hERG or expensive and time consuming Langendorff heart models, this multi-electrode array (MEA) assay measures the field electrical potential (FEP) of contracting sheets of cardiomyocytes.  FEP is closely correlated to the action potential duration of ventricular cardiomyocytes and thus the QT interval in a beating heart.
