Loading Controls

Housekeeping proteins such as GAPDH, cytoskeletal actin and G6PD are useful as loading controls in western blot to normalise protein levels, to confirm gel to membrane transfer and check for edge effects. However house-keeping protein expression levels can vary between cell lines, different cellular compartments and treatment conditions meaning different loading controls are optimal in different systems.
