Cytokine & Chemokine Antibodies
Cytokines are small proteins secreted by leukocytes to send messages to the same cell, adjacent cells or distant cells, causing a change in function or development. Each cytokine binds to a specific receptor. Different types of leukocyte can express the same cytokine and different cytokines can exert the same effect on a target cell. Responses are context-dependent (e.g. presence of other cytokines, extracellular matrix). Cytokines are involved in a diverse range of biological functions including growth, development, and inflammatory responses.
Chemokines are a large sub-set of chemotactic cytokines which induce cell migration and homing responses in leukocytes such as neutrophils, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils, and lymphocytes. Chemokines are involved in regulating acute and chronic types of inflammation.
