Coagulation Cascade Assays
The co-ordination of blood clotting involves a delicate balance between the clot forming coagulation cascade and the proteolytic clot dissolving fibrinolytic pathway. A variety of disorders are associated with the inability to regulate these processes. Failure to form blood clots, as seen in haemophilia, can predispose individuals to uncontrolled haemorrhaging whereas pathological clotting, as seen in atherosclerosis and deep vein thrombosis, can result in organ damage and organ failure with further complications such as embolisms in downstream organs.
Plasmin, thrombin, tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) are serine protease enzymes involved in the co-ordination of clot formation. Cambridge Bioscience provides a range of highly sensitive and easy to use FRET-based enzyme activity assays (SensoLyte®) to investigate the activity and the inhibition of these enzymes.
Benefits of using the SensoLyte® Activity Assays
• Rapid 1 hour workflow
• Optimised for inhibitor screening
• Compatible with plasma, cell and tissue extracts
