Heat Shock Protein 70

HSP70 genes encode abundant heat-inducible 70-kDa HSP's (HSP70s). In most eukaryotes HSP70 genes exist as part of a multigene family. HSP70 family of heat shock proteins contains multiple homologues ranging in size from 66kDa to 78kDa. Hsp70 binds ATP with high affinity and possesses a weak ATPase activity which can be stimulated by binding to unfolded proteins.

The 90kDa molecular chaperone family comprises several proteins including the 90 kDa heat shock protein HSP90 and the 94kDa glucose-regulated protein grp94. In mammalian cells there are at least two HSP90 isoforms, HSP90 alpha and HSP90 beta, which are encoded by separate genes.
