Multiple myeloma (MM) results in abnormal plasma cells, which accumulate in the bone and bone marrow to interfere with the development of normal cells. MM is often accompanied by immunodeficiency problems.

This heterogeneous cell population allows researchers to isolate various cell types of the immune system including CD34+ stromal cells and can enable researchers to investigate the impacts of MM upon the immune system.
