Xpedition™ Tough-To-Lyse Sample Processing

For many years, researchers have been limited by the degradation and contamination of biological samples collected in the field. This has caused particular issues when samples are to be analysed using highly sensitive molecular-analysis techniques.

Cambridge Bioscience offers the new Xpedition™ Sample Processor (XSP) and Xpedition™ Sample Preparation Kits from Zymo Research. The XSP is a portable bead beating instrument that can be used with most 2.0 ml tubes containing lysis matrix. However, when used in combination with the Xpedition™ sample preparation kits, this instrument enables the convenient and immediate processing of tough-to-lyse biological and environmental samples for use in the field.

Xpedition™ Preservation Kits
The Xpedition™ DNA preservation kits enable the quick and easy isolation of DNA from a variety of tough to lyse samples. These kits contain a unique lysis/stabilization solution that effectively preserves DNA in lysates for subsequent storage and transport. At a point that is convenient to the researcher, the kit’s Fast-Spin column technologies can then be used for the for the isolation of humic acid/polyphenol-free DNA from the lysates.

The following four DNA preservation kits are available:

1. Soil/Fecal DNA MiniPrep
Sample Type: Bacteria, fungi, protozoa and algae in faeces, clay and sandy, salty, silty, peaty, chalky and loamy soils

2. Fungal/Bacterial DNA MiniPrep
Sample Type: Gram (+) and (-) bacteria, mycelium and fungi including A. fumigates, C. albicans, N. crassa, S. cerevisiae and S. pombe.

3. Tissue & Insect DNA MiniPrep
Sample Type: Tissue and insects

4. Plant/Seed DNA MiniPrep
Sample Type: Plant leaves, stems, buds, flowers, fruit and seeds
