Plasminogen Activator Assays
Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) are both serine proteases that function in the conversion of plasminogen to the active, broad-spectrum serine protease plasmin. Elevated activity of tPA can cause excessive haemorrhaging and reduced activity can lead to thrombosis and embolism. tPA can be used to treat thromboembolic events such as myocardial infarction and pulmonary embolisms within a certain window, minimising organ damage by dissolving clots. uPA is involved in initiating intracellular signal pathways that regulate cell proliferation, adhesion and migration and has been recently recognized as a prognostic marker for various cancers.
Cambridge Bioscience offers highly sensitive and easy to use FRET-based enzyme activity assays to investigate both the activity and the inhibition of tPA and uPA.
