Plasmin is a serine protease that catalyses the break-up of fibrin based clots. It is produced by the cleavage of the single chain protein plasminogen by tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), kallikrein, urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and factor XII (Hageman factor). Plasmin is involved in wound healing, liver repair and the maintenance of liver homeostasis and reduced levels are associated with elevated risks of thromboembolism.
Cambridge Bioscience offers highly sensitive and easy to use FRET-based enzyme activity assays to investigate both the activity and the inhibition of thrombin.
