COX Activity Assays
Cyclooxygenase (COX) is a central enzyme in the prostaglandin biosynthetic pathway. The enzyme is responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2 (PGH2), the precursor of prostaglandins, thromboxanes and prostacyclins. There are two isoforms of this enzyme: COX-1 and COX-2, with differing associated expression patterns. COX-1 is expressed constitutively in a variety of cell types, whereas COX-2 by contrast is expressed during the acute inflammatory state.
Cambridge Bioscience offers colourimetric and fluorometric COX activity assays. Both assays are suitable for examining COX activity in crude cell lysates, tissue homogenates and purified enzyme preparations and are supplied with COX-1 and COX-2 specific inhibitors to enable the specific measurement of either isoform.
Benefits of Using the COX Activity Assays
• Highly sensitive & precise
• Enables assaying of specific COX-1 or COX-2 activity
• Wide sample compatibility - crude cell lysates, tissue homogenates & purified enzyme preparations
• Tested negatively for interference with a wide range of common substances
